Transneft to build oil pipeline in 400 km from Baikal Lake

Publish date: May 29, 2006

Decision of building of East Siberia – Pacific Ocean in 400 km from Baikal Lake was made during meeting between chief of Transneft Semen Vainshtok and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We have seriously moved the pipeline (from Baikal) – on 400, not on 40 km, as we had planed in Tomsk. We have changed the route, as the variant of building, offered in Tomsk is impossible”, Vainshtok said. According to him, the route will be 400 km longer, and the company will have to build 300 km of roads and provide electricity for the project implementation, RusEnergy reported.
