In response to the European Commission’s consultation on the upcoming European Grids Package, Bellona Europa has published a position paper setting out targeted policy recommendations to strengthen the EU’s infrastructure planning and investment framework.

The paper outlines five areas for reform:

• Enhancing governance and aligning infrastructure with climate goals

• Improving long-term, integrated system planning

• Supporting investment through regulatory and financial tools

• Facilitating flexibility and digital innovation

• Increasing transparency and access to grid data

These recommendations are intended to help ensure that grids enable a cost-effective, secure, and climate-aligned energy transition, while supporting Europe’s industrial and policy objectives.
