Cement is one of the most important materials in our built environment as the key ingredient of concrete, the main component of our houses and infrastructure. At the same time, cement production is responsible for 4% of the CO₂ emissions of the whole European Union, with the decarbonisation of the sector presenting many challenges.

The present report tries to answer some key questions on the decarbonisation of the cement sector:

• What solutions are and will be available to reach climate neutrality by 2050?
• What is the potential of said solution?
• What are the obstacles that delay the transition towards the decarbonisation of the cement
  industry? How to overcome such obstacles?
