Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) is a set of technologies that capture CO2 emissions at source point, transport them to storage sites, and store them underground. It helps mitigate climate change by reducing emissions in heavy industries, preventing CO2 from entering the atmosphere and causing further global warming.
CCS is crucial for “hard-to-abate” sectors like cement, steel, and chemical manufacturing. It allows these industries to capture and store a portion of their CO2 emissions that cannot be reduced through other means. By facilitating industrial decarbonisation, CCS plays a significant role in transitioning to a net-zero economy.

The decision follows an agreement with Stockholm Exergi to transport and store up to 800 – 900 kilotonnes of CO₂ per year. “This decision is years in the making, and the culmination of decades of hard work from many, Bellona included” says Bellona Europa Director Jonas Helseth.
