According to Oleg Mitvol, the Commission together with environmental organization Greenpeace had a meeting with inhabitants of cities and towns of the republic. People told the Commission that there is a growth of diseases in the region, caused by bad environmental situation. Every spring the Kolva river is polluted with oil products, but regional Mass Media do not give all the information about environmental situation in the region.
Now the Commission tries to investigate the source of the pollution, RusEnergy informs. According to Mitvol, “there are all the reasons to think that the source of the pollution is enterprises, working with LUKOIL Company”.
The Commission has found out that the environmental expertise of seismic investigations on field of this company was held without public hearings. There are cases of violent behavior according to forests. According to inspectors, “trees were root up by bulldozers”. The investigation is going on.
