Ahead of the October European Council, the Coalition for Higher Ambition urges the EU to set a science-based 2040 target of at least 90% net domestic emission reductions (from 1990 levels) and a 2035 NDC aligned with that goal. The group stresses that this must be achieved without relying on international carbon credits, and that the European Green Deal and binding national targets must be upheld.
The letter highlights the growing human and economic toll of climate impacts in Europe and argues that stronger climate action will boost jobs, health, and competitiveness. The Coalition also calls on EU leaders to attend COP30 in Brazil to demonstrate continued global leadership.
